Megan recently discovered that she will be graduating with the class of 2017 at Currituck County High School. While yes, this is so very exciting, it also causes some stress when you, as a mom, weren't prepared for your baby to graduate this year! All of a sudden, Megan's mom, Veronica, learned that she had until this coming week to submit Megan's image for the yearbook.
I've done Megan's headshots for the theater for the past two years. Last year, she missed the day we had scheduled at the high school, so she and her mom visited the studio. I just delivered this year's headshots to Mr. White within the last couple of weeks. Veronica reached out to me, letting me know that they weren't interested in much more than a formal for the yearbook, but would need expedited senior portraits done for Megan.
Earlier this year, we expanded our senior session offerings, realizing not everyone is interested in our Signature Session. We added our Luxe Session, for those who want multiple locations - it's the ultimate senior experience and includes our brand new stunning Luxe Album! But we also wanted a session for those who may not need quite so much. It's no secret that I love shooting in the studio, and there are some seniors for whom a one hour session in the studio is just enough. Thus our Basic Session was created!
Megan and her mom came to the studio today for her Basic Session. Veronica isn't feeling well, but I think (and hope!) she was still able to enjoy seeing her baby in front of my lens. We began the session with all of us crying! It's tough as a mom when you experience your baby's senior portrait session! Megan is stunning - and it was a bit much for her mom to see. We all gathered ourselves and moved on. :)
I think they both enjoyed seeing the images immediately. Veronica was excited when she first saw Megan's images popping up on the screen! I LOVE tethering in the studio!! It helps so much for our clients to see how subtle changes to posing or lighting can change the look of an image. Or in this case, we learned that Veronica really only likes images with Megan's full smile - the one that lights up her entire face! Megan was able to sneak one "baby smile" image in for her announcements. Most of our MKP clients will know what the baby smile is. ;)

Almost everyone loves the ringlight! Can you believe this sweet girl's eyes?! The ringlight is perfect for her! And I admit that I loved having a 50mm lens to use - I have so many problems shooting through the ringlight. This lens made it easier than it has been in the past! Yes, I'm trying to use the primes I purchased earlier this year!

Michelle Kirnan - Thank you so much for your kind words, Veronica! My main goal with each and every session is to capture the beauty each of my clients sees in their child. I LOVE that this is what we did! It is the essence of all we do!
Megan is a sweet, beautiful young woman, who I am certain will do well in all that she endeavors. I wish her (and you!) all the best as she moves into the next chapter of her life.

Veronica Gubbs - WOW! What a day... Emotional for certain. You captured the beauty I see when I look at my daughter every day. The realization of it all is still sinking in. Thank you for your delightful, upbeat self! You certainly helped to keep the tears at bay.
